Encore Turkey Barrel?
« on: March 10, 2005, 04:54:53 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences, good or bad, with the Encore Turkey Barrels?

Specifically.....

How does their turkey choke tube shoot?

Lead vs. Hevishot through their tube?

Is their barrel threaded with a common thread form in order to buy aftermarket turkey choke tubes that will fit it?

Thanks!

Mark

I got one last year and it shot good with the factory choke.  Hevi Shot didn't do too good out of mine at first.  Took it to Rhino and had them lengthen the forcing cone and polish the bore and now it shoots great!  I killed 9 gobblers with it last year and have no complaints at all.  I currently shoot a Rhino .660 choke and Win HV #6's out of it.  The thread pattern on mine is the same as the Win/Moss 500/Invector chokes so they are readily available about anywhere chokes are sold.  Good Luck!

I have a New Englander shotgun barrel (black powder) in 12 gage that uses the same threads.  I was wondering if that is a T/C standard.

As I've said before, go QUICKLY to get a Sims recoil pad on an Encore shotgun.  You will be glad you did!  All the energy comes straight back to your shoulder but the Sims pad makes it very bearable.

Thanks for the tips!  I ordered a .660 Rhino tube yesterday.  I am glad you recommended that one, as I have had 5-6 different Rhino tubes for different shotguns I have owned and I feel they are the best.  I also called Nitro Ammunition Company, which recommended that Rhino tube (.660) as well.  While I was on the phone with them I orded some of their 4x5x7 Hevishot loads as well.  Their loads through a Rhino tube is an AWESOME combo!!!

Thanks for the tip on the Sims pad also.  I have noticed that my shoulder is getting softer as I get older.  Or at least my tolerance level.... :)

Thanks!
