Reciever sight from NEF
« on: March 10, 2005, 10:47:47 PM »
I see in the store section of the NEF site that they have a 60.00 dollar sight that they sell for the Handi rifles. Has anyone tried that one? If so does it add some useful range to the 45-70? Also does it work with the existing front sight? Thanks!
shot placement is everything.

I bought mine from Midway, cost a bit more, but I was ordering other stuff, so the savings in shipping washed the difference in cost. Don't have a range report yet, but using the Williams process for determining sight height relationship, the .584" high standard font sight will be higher than needed, idea height according to them would be .550" high, so the .584" tall 17AUG sight that came on my BC won't allow as long range as possible with a lower sight. I installed the .404" tall 17AHB sight, which appears when bore sight to be maybe a bit too low, but maybe not with the big bullets and low pressure loads.

One issue you'll need to deal with is the loctite in the mount holes on the BC, the holes are much deeper than they appear, but the screws that come with the sight will bottom out and seem too long, dig the loctite out of the mount holes and you'll be good to go, it will mount up just fine. One reviewer of the sight at Midway, stated that he had to take his to a gunsmith to get it mounted cuz the screws were too long, not so with mine and a couple others here, that smith just removed the loctite and probably charged him good for it!

I have one that I bought for my .38=55, Works really well on my .357 max. with a .22 hornet front blade. The globe sight on my .38-55 is to tall, so I think I'll put the FP on my .30-30 and a smith ladder sight on the .38-55 with a scout scope on the Max and six or seven other things I'm gonna do just because there handy.
