Went to the range today and tested out some new loads for my 223BBL Handi Rilfe. The Following is what I got out of it.
1. V-Max 55gr , 22.0 grains of H322, Winchester Brass, CCI 400 primers: Nothing consistent. I have not been able to get V-max bullets to shoot well with a number of other recipies. Oh well.
2. Sierra Blitz 55gr, 23.3. grains of H322, Winchester brass, CCI 400 primers: Excellent shot groups. .75- .50" groups with one clover leaf 3 shot group.
3. Sierra BlitzKing 55gr, 23.3.grains of H322, Winchester brass, CCI 400 Primers: Very consistent shot groups. Average 1" groups and a couple of .75" goups.
It is obvious with the current load I am using (Sierra 55gr Blitz with 26.0 grains of H335) and the other two Sierra loads that I tested today that my Handi enjoys eating and digesting the Sierra line of varmint bullets. I must say that those Blitzking bullets make a good looking round once loaded! I am going to tinker around with the Blitzking bullets a little more to see if I can close the groups a little. The Blitzking has a thicker wall than the Blitz bullets and my theory is that when shooting yotes, I will get a little more penetration before expansion. Although, the 55gr Blitz do a wonderful job at taking out the dogs.
