New 223 Barrell

I just got my new 223 barrell today and I was just wondering what kind of results you guys have been having. I have a 209x50 and a 308 and they are exceptional. I had a 7x30 and 223 super 14 on a contender.... Just to be honest with you I have never had anything but exceptional results with my Thompsons. Thanks for your reply.  I will get to try it out to the range tomorrow.

Mine loves 60 grain bullets. I can not get it to shoot a 50 grain bullet worth a darn.

My Custom Shop 223 is shooting 1/4" groups with 50gr Sierras. Been wanting to try 60gr partitions in it but haven't got around to it. Has anyone else tried these in their Contender 223 ? Mike

Did not get to take the shooting bench, but was very pleased with the accuracy. Another great shooter from the family of Encore!!!

Mike,
I've tried the 60gn partitions in my factory Contender 21". Have only tried one powder so far. BL-C, 26.1 gn was about as far as I wanted to go in my barrel. Grouped at little over 2" at around 2900 fps if I remember right.
24.5gn grouped better, about 1.5" but velocity was low for the Sitka Black Tail load I was looking for.
Barnes TSX 53gn shot about .75" w/ 26.1 of the same powder. Around 3050fps I think. Low velocities for the .223 but that 's what I'm getting out of mine. Hope that helps. G.
Hurrah fer mountain doin's- :D

Thanks, Gordon. I was trying to figure out if the 1 in 12 twist would be enough for the 60 grainers. If you are getting .75" groups I would think that's good enough. Mike

I played with a 26" bbl. 223 encore this weekend. 27 grs. of Benchmark with a 40 gr. Bal Tip, Fed 205 primer, and Win brass. This load shoots a 1/2" @ 100 yds. I shot this same load out of my Rem 700 ADL, 1st group in the wind was a little over an inch, wind quit blowing for a few minutes, 2nd group went .200 @ 100 yds. Velocity out of my 24" bbl is 3550 fps. It will probably run a little faster out of the 26" bbl.
