Twist Rate for T/C Hawken

Just picked up a .54 Hawken that looks like it was never shot although I know it was. Super condition not even a scratch on the stock, blueing is perfect, no corrosion on the hammer, barrel is pristine etc. I know it is supposed to be a 1 in 48 although when I measure it I get one half turn in 25 1/2 inches which in my math class is 1 in 51 inches. Does anyone have a clue or do they just estimate the 1 in 48. I know the barrel is original as it has all the T/C writing stamped on it as well as a ser. number. I may write T/C and see what they can tell me about the rifle based on the number. I wanted it for patched ball shooting as I have an Omega for the modern stuff. I may have to send for a Green Mountain drop in barrel as I think I would prefer .50 for matches anyway. Since I got the rifle for $190 with a whole tackle box of accessories and it has a Lyman 57 peep sight installed and the stock sight in the box I think I can afford another barrel for it.

TC only makes two barrel twists for the Hawken & Renegade:
1:48"
1:66"

Obviously it is the 1 in 48 but it is a long 48. Maybe I missed something in how to measure but I did it three times and came out with the same measurement each time.

some of the very early 70's T/C's had a slow twist barrel that is different from the current offerd 1-48 or 1-66. If memory serves right it was 1-60 :roll:(as if I have memory) and the grooves were deeper.
 common problem with measuring bore twist is not enough patch on the jag for a snug fit and/or a loose jag on the rod.
 Double check them measures Keith,,cause 51 just don't sound right,,, heck just pull 12"s,put tape on the rod and tape on the barrel and make yer marks,,then you snug thet jag down with a plier if need too,,cause a clockwise twist WILL unscrew a clockwise thread when pulled. The rod will pull further than the jag,,because it's unscrewing itself as you pull. If it's not "tight" it will slip or skip the rifling .

lostid: you got me thinking if i have one of the slower twist barrels on my Renegade Flinter 54 cal.seem the rifle grooves are real deep cut in the barrel and I know it may be the first year they made the renegade .
