It's me again,

For I don't know what reasons I ended up buying a Ruger SBHH .44 mag, 7.5" bbl for $475 :oops: . It has the Bisley grip and I took it to the range half hour after I've bought it and the gun was hitting tin cans at 25 yards out of the box.

The cylinder seem a little sloppy. I would prefer it was more tight. One guy at the store told me that there is a rod replacement at Brownells that takes care of that play. Do you know what rod was he talking about?

I opted for the Belt Mtn base pin upgrade myself as a way to stop the stock base pin from backing out under hard recoil. I placed an order for the #5 Elmer Keith Base Pin directly from Belt Mountain. This base pin comes with a set screw that you snug down onto the barrel of the SBHH to keep the pin from moving. To install you need to remove the ejector rod, remove the sloppy base pin, insert the new base pin and tighten it down snug. Some people drill a small recess in the barrel for the screw to rest in but I did not. Here is a pic of my Ruger SBHH with the Belt Mtn base pin installed:

Ditto this suggestion!!! I have one on my SBH .45 Colt and it made a big difference and tightened up the groups. :grin:

I heed your suggestions. I had not taken any action yet until I recover from "sudden impulse purchasing syndrome". :wink:

In the mean time, I reloaded some low velocity rounds to plink for a while. I had found that this gun is the most accurate .44 mag that I ever had and a pleasant gun to shoot. I had always stayed away from single action revolvers and I also stayed away from larger than 6" bbl length. Not any more. This gun has shown some potentials right out of the box and if I change the base pin, and lighten up the trigger with a new set of Wolf springs, perhaps this happiness could increase. What else do you think I need to do to this gun to make it a great gun (without having to approach FA gun cost?) Can I do the change of springs myself or should leave that to a gun smith? How do you go about changing the spring?

It really does work! :eek:

I've just did that last night and the feel of the trigger pull is definitely lighter. I will eventually make the WOLF spring changes though. But for now, I will like to see how it shoots.
