I have a 24 inch 7-08 for my encore. It is brand new in January. I have tried different powders and bullets and just can not seem to get the acccuracy I was hoping for. I am using the o ring to keep the barrel from touching and I have good clearance. There is no movement in the barrel when it locks up as it and the frame are brand new. I am looking for any pet loads anyone has for this set up if any. I have used mostly 140 grain sierra game king bullets and some 150 grain. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I have the same barrel and get 1 1/2 at 100 yards off a range bag using FACTORY 140 Remington Core-lokt. Try a box and see if it's your reloads, or the gun itself.

i shoot 120gr noslers outta my 15" 7-08 with great accuracy. i use 41.5gr of h4895. h4895 and varget would be good choices.
you may also try ss washers to replace the rubber o rings. may be more solid. :? mine shot worse with 3m tape(spongy) to float the pistol forend.

I have seen comments about the SS washers before on the Contender and they work well. I have been using some of those plumbing washers on the Encore due to the curve in the barrel and forend. Do you curve the washers to fit the barrel on Encores? I wouldn't know how to approach getting the correct bend.

Hi Bubba;
My favorite load for my 7mm-08 is as follows:
139 grain Hornady Spire Point bullet
45.0 grains of AA MRP (3100) powder
Remington 9 1/2 Primer

I have used this load for quite a few years with good success!
This load shoots around an inch at 100 out of my Remington M-7!

yes.....i do put a slight bend in the washers to match the barrel contour on the encore.....as close as i can anyway. i just take 2 sets of pliers placed nose to nose in the center of the washer, then bend as best you can. only takes a small amount. :wink: especially if you use washers that are small and fit the screw correctly.

on one composite forend, i just use the washers flat. i then put a piece of masking tape over it to somewhat hold it in place when removing the forearm. i suppose you could also glue them in place.

some sanding on the insides of the forearm may also help to get clearance. i use a "socket" that is close to barrel size. then wrap some sandpaper around it. i try to remove material from the sides usually.......not the bottom of the channel.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going ot the range with some factory loads this weekend to see what it does. Plus it will give me more brass to reload with

I took the barrel out again today. I removed the oring and have lots of clearanc ewithout it, so I tried it that way. Anyway I went to the gun shop and checked the new sierra manual as the bullets I had were 140 grain game king btsp. The book said their most accurate load was 39.6 grains of reloader 15. I bought a pound and loaded up 20 to try them. Well this did the job. I am not sure which made it better. The removal of the ring or the new load. Either way I am happy with a 5 shot just under 2 inch group at 100 yards. This week I will load more and take the chronograph with me to check it out next weekend. I was also using cci primers.

I just finished working up the load for my 7-08 this weekend. I use Rem. brass, Win. LRP, IMR 4350 powder and a 140 grain Nosler BT. Load ended up being 45.8 grains of powder and the bullet seated 60 thousandths off the lands. It put 5 rounds into .9 inch at 100 yards off a bench. The barrel is floated with SS washers. I don't know why but this is the pickiest gun I have ever seen about loads. A .2 grain charge difference opened the group from .9 to over 2 inches. These things are great shooters once you get them figured out but I can see where some people get frustrated trying to get them right.
