Howdy Ya'll

Was wondering how these rifles shoot compared to the M44's. I've got one of the short mule kickers and the dang thing shoots way to the left. Haven't really had time to breakout the brass hammer and punch and drift the front sight over but it doesn't group well either. Course it could be the ammo I know. Not even sure now who manufactored it come to think of it. Reckon I'd better try some good stuff in it before I bad mouth it to much. Course that mule kicker is right on the nail. Like the the thang but ya better tuck it in tight.
Saw the 91\30's that Cole Distributing had in Shotgun News for 59 bucks plus it came with the accerories( bad speller). Seems like a good deal. Anbody out there bought one as of late? How'd ya like it?  Thanks in advance.

My 44 Pole groups great with Winchester FMJ and with Reloads. The surplus ammo I had did not group well at all. I did not realize how good my 44 shot until I switched to better ammo. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Andrew - it may not be the sights on that rifle.  It may be the stock impacting or pushing on the barrel.  My brother once picked up a M44 that shot the same way you describe yours and one look down the barrel channel showed the stock was bearing on the barrel.  So, We relieved the barrel channel, bedded the action and free floated the stock and she shot to poi at 100 yds with some very nice groups using good ammo.  It did not take a lot of work as those rifles are very simply put together.  You may want to look to the fit of the wood to the metal before you start playing with the sights.  You might get it to shoot where you want it to but your groups will most likely not improve until you straighten out that barrel channel and bed the action.  HTH.  Mikey.

There's light ball 7.62x54 ammo and heavy ball 7.62x54 ammo and i'm not sure which one is right for the M44's or the rest of the mosins too.  I have heard the 91/30's can shoot pretty good in the accuracy dept.  I have a brand new russian M44 which i shot using chinese military surplus ammo but the sights were way off I was hitting the next target at 11 oclock about a foot to the left and up from the POA but the dam thing did group tight which shows me the gun was never sighted in yet.  I know its a brand new M44 because the date on the reciever matches the date on the barrel plus the way the gun was full of cosmoline and wrapped too.  These were for sale at the sametime when the very first sks's were here for sale too.  If i remember correctly they had new russsian guns but I'm not sure if they were AK47's or sks's but they were a lot higher than the chinese guns were($125), new chinese sks's($59) and new russian m44 mosins ($114).   That was a longtime ago.                          BigBill

I have both the carbine (M44) and the 91/30 and yes the carbine is a sholder braker, but the other is a great  shooter with good ammo tho I reload my and at 200 meters  have a average group of 1 1/2". (open sights)
I redone the stock and even shortened the forarm back to the front strap hole and replaced the metal ends I also added a tripod. Have had a lot of guys look at it not sure what it was.
My loads are 48 grains of IMR 4064, Win. primers and 150 gr. Speer boat tails bullets with a tight crimp. This gives me  2760 fps with a deviation of 21 fps over a 10 round test done 4 times for a total of 40 rounds with a 1 min. wait between each string of 10 shot
Good shooting[/b]

I've never bedded an action or floated a barrel I'm afraid to say. Have heard of it but never seen it done or done it myself. Is it a complicated process? I'm a very mechanical type person. I'd gladly take on this progect if you can point me out some material to read up on the process.
Got a Brownell's catalog and I bet they would have the supplies I need. Guess they would also have a book on it to. Thanks for the help.
Now I've got to decide what to do first. Order a Yugo Mauser, a 91/30 or work on the M44. Ain't life tuff!!
