resetting traps after a catch
« on: February 10, 2003, 01:59:47 PM »
i have been reading several posts about resetting traps after a catch-the pros and cons of reworking a cat
i caught two big coons this morning and i am confused about what i need to do about my traps as they polished like they were new.do i need to wash them and re-dye and wax them?my traps are new but i went through all the steps of degreasing and dyeing with logwood and waxing.what do i need to do now to get my traps ready to go again?i use 1.5 vics and i usually set my traps in a couple of inches of water in the slews off of the river.one of the coons was caught in a dirt hole set this am.i also caught my first red fox yesterday and i am wondering what i need to do to the trap now to get it ready to go.since i am just learning the ropes,i only have a dozen traps but i have tons of places to trap so i need to be able to get them back in ground asap.any help on this will be greatly appreciated,i am working hard on becoming a good trapper just need a little advice here and there.thanks, georgiaboy

resets after catch

Only thing i do on coon if in water sets is just reset and if trap is a little shining cover with liquid mud or break up outline so coon does get interested in trap.  Canines just rub off any dirt or  wash in creek and reset trap.  I also always set another trap close by to original set  (differant or scent post) and keep on trapping
