Remington 2006 Classic

My guess is this:
The ADL has been replaced by one of their stainless/synthetic base models.  The ss/syn has been outselling the blued steel and walnut models for a while now.  Probably cheaper to manufacture too.

The Classic series was never meant to go more than 25 years.  Why they arrange it to end in 2006 with the 100 anniversary of the 30/06 is anybody's guess, but probably because they wanted to have the 06 in the lineup much earlier.  The Classic was a good seller, but cartridges left to "introduce" was getting slim.  It is my belief the CDL was introduced to coincide with the demise of the Classic series.  These two are very similar.

The BDL may go away as the more "Deluxe" stainless/synthetics are outselling the blued steel and walnut model.  Those that are fans of the blue/walnut, will have the CDL.

Those are just guesses on my part, but the Classic ending about the time the CDL is introduced makes sense.  I would also bet that with wood prices going up, its cheaper to put synthetic stocks on rifles than wood.  SS/Syn rifles are probably outselling the blued/walnut rifles ten to one anyway.

I would guess that Remington will come out with something for the 100th of the 30-06.  

Maybe a Special Run or a Limited Edition of some sort in the CDL or other model.

While we are on the topic of Classics, does anyone know if Remington made many Classics in stainless steel in 257 Roberts? I thought they were all blued, but found one in ss; The lisring shows it was made in 257 back in 1982.

Stainless rifles and synthetic stocks were both rare in 1982.
I never heard of any LE Classics being produced in stainless. For this to supposedly happen in 1982 would have been way ahead of it's time in regard to a standard production rifle.
It might be possible to trace out the serial number to the year of manufacture.
If the caliber and stainless action check out to 1982, then it had to be a specially ordered rifle from the Custom shop. In that case, it was an expensive purchase for someone.
The factory target rifles had stainless barrels and the actions were blued steel. There were some magnum models with blued stainless barrels, but again, the actions were blued steel. The stainless barrels were supposedly more durable. But they were also gaining a reputation for good looks, which likely resulted in many requests and eventual factory production of stainless rifles.
Both S&W and Ruger were well into stainless production for their pistols at that time, most blued models having a stainless counterpart, and they were selling like hotcakes. A Model 629 could bring in around $1000 to a fast-talker. Model 29s still sold for $2-3 hundred. That's retail price. Ruger 10/22's were about $75 until their first big price increase about that time to around $125. Mini14's were about $175. Most bolt actions sold for about $200.

I also heard that 2005 and the 308 "classic" offering was to be Remington's last.  It think it is sad but I really believe the Classic will return.  This is the way of gun makers.  The masses howl and the gunmakers respond.

I have m700 Classic's in 22-250, 270 win, 30-06 and 300 H&H and I almost forgot- 243 Win.  How I would like to find some "Classics" is 7x57, 257 Bob, 25-06, 222 Mag, 264 Win, 338 Win (I had one and sold it like a moron), and 375 H&H to match my 300 H&H, and 300 Savage. and both 300 Weatherby and 7mm Weatherby, and I plan on a 308 Win as soon as one hits the shelves.

I think they could have continued on with some other Weatherby calibers most of which I am a fan, could include a Classic 257 Weatherby, the 240 and 340 and 270 Weatherby's and of course the 375 Weatherby.  They could have also made Limited Run's in 458 Winchester, 308 Norma and 358 Norma Magnums, 338-06, 458 Lott and given some time to think, I could come up with some additional rounds they could have chambered Classic rifles in.

I suspect they will reintroduce the Classic sometime.

The .450 Marlin works great in bolt action rifles.  Many are finding this out and are either spending the money for a Winchester Classic Short or having a current bolt action re-barreled the the Marlin round.  As the old timers would say, "it really shines" in a bolt action.  Built one and am building a second.  Lawdog

My current bolt action .450 Marlin is a Win. M70 that I got almost 4 years ago from Clark's Custom.  It has a 25" Shilen Match grade barrel I had Clark install.  Clark also sold rifles and barreled actions in Win. M79, Ruger M77 and Rem. M700 in the .450 Marlin.

What I called the "Winchester Classic Short" is really the Winchester Model 70 Classic, Custom SA (Short Action).  Go to http://www.winchesterguns.com/prodinfo/catalog/detail.asp?cat_id=535&type_id=915&cat=001C to view the claibers it comes in.  Sorry if I crosed you up with my shorting the name.  Great rifle but at $2,700 it's a bit more than I wanted to pay.  Currently I am in the process of making another bolt action .450 Marlin but this time it's on a Weatherby Mark V action I bought.  It too has a 25" Shilen Match Grade barrel and a Royal Arms Heavy Classic AAA grade stock.  Between this and my .35 Whelen I am building neither are getting done very fast.  Lawdog
