Will subsonics be quiet in a revolver like they are in a rifle?
Sound like a dumb question but I don't know the answer.

They will be quieter, but they will not be nearly as quiet as in a long barreled rifle. They are still loud even in a short barreled single-shot like Contender.  YOU will hear a pretty good sound....but they will not 'crack' as they go down-range, so it will be quite a bit quieter for your neighbors.
....make it count

High-Velocity 22s are subsonic from a revolver because they lose so much velocity due to the short barrel and the barrel/cylinder gap.  For hunting with a revolver, I like the high velocity cartridges best.

I like the Remington Subsonics in my Contender pistol, though. It's the best ammo Remington makes. Very good squirrel ammo.

I never could tell much difference in sound between the subsonics and high velocity ammo in my revolver.

Like Questor I dont notice a huge difference out of my single six with the subsonics.  But I will say they are not as ear splitting as high velocity. I like them cause of the accuracy I get with them from my SS.

:cb2: Noise wise, I agree with the other guys—out of a handgun they are still loud. However, it seems that that the standard velocity rounds are more accurate in all my handguns. CCI Standard Velocity, and their Small Game rounds are great.

By the way, the Mexican stuff, the SSS 60-gr. is pretty accurate, but they drop like a rock.

FWIW. A Class III dealer once demonstrated a supressed Ruger semiauto pistol for me using subsonic rounds. It muted the blast enough that the report didn't ring your naked ears. But it wasn't silent, by any means. A CB Long might have been much quieter, but I doubt it would have cycled the action.

I'd just shoot whatever it shoots best and keep the earplugs handy.

I shoot high velocity shorts in hollow point in my Single Six.  They don't seem to be even as loud as the LR subsonics.  I have also shot the CB longs and they are even less noisy.  But at 2:00AM in a quiet subdivision in the city limits, even the CBs sound like a cannon going off!
