Beaver compared to coon fleshing
« on: March 16, 2005, 12:13:56 PM »
This year I put up my coon for the first time and they came out good, but took longer than I'd like, especially some nasty old boars.  I suppose I'll get faster over time.
Now that I have some perspective, how does fleshing beaver compare?

We don't have them here, but I'm sure some will move in eventually at my hunting camp and I won't be able to resist , lol.

Thanks

Well besides the obvious of ones case skinned and the other is open skinned. For beaver I like to keep a towel or rag between my body and the beaver, it helps to hold it on the beam. I flesh a strip straight down from the head to the tail, about 6- 8 inches wide. Next I turn it on it's side and flesh it in quarters. The hardest part is around the head and at the base of the tail. Watch out for the nipples, there are 2 on each side.  It takes me about 15 minutes to flesh out a blanket beaver.
Lifes a trap bed, dig it!
