This is only a test. Had this been a real post I would have said something smartalecky like have you thrown away a Remchester today

I've had nothing but trouble getting online for two weeks now, once in a while for just a few minutes, I've even been lucky enough to make a couple of small posts. After harrassing the phone company every day for the last week to get my line fixed, it appears that something has actually been done to solve my problem. I'll know for sure after hooking up a few more times this evening.

By the way, 38-55 Handi's rule! :-D    :)    :-D

You sure got that right! I pay over $60 a month for broadband including and extra IP for the wife, it's expensive, but the first time you download a big file, it gets appreciated real quick!! I do PC repair and update  Windows OS at their update site, a normal update will usually be 60-100mb of update files total, usually takes about 10-15 minutes of actual download time for all of it!!

I had cable...Charter to be exact...couldn't wait till I was off of it...had more down time...5-6 times a week...and the speed dropped off to that of running dual modems on dial up...not to mention they jacked the prices up on me 4x in the last 2years...got my DSL line up and running and a extra analog line put in......thru put is 1.5m.s....upload is almost as fast...all for $19.95 a month...for the DSL...$9.50 a month for the extra line...$43.00 for nationwide long distance package...and I'm saving about $30 a month in the process...not the fastest service I have ever had...but certainly the most consistant...peak or off peak times...I'm a happy camper :oh:   :yeah:

If you got a good cable company...you can do extremly well with them...same too for a good phone company...but the one thing I've found using both...the more people you have on your cable line using it...the slower it becomes.....with DSL...your thru-put remains constant on downloads...and uploads...

My upload speed is in the 3mbit range, that's 3000kbs, downloads run 350 to 390 kbs.....sometimes it slows, but it's usually at peak times caused by net congestion, not local conditions. Haven't had an outage for months. Comcast here has been excellent. Can't sat the same for @Home and AT&T, had frequent outages with both. My cable modem quit on me once, they came and replaced it the next day.....

I feel your dial up pain, we are out of the cable loop & too far out for DSL so dial up is the only option & on occ there is so much static on one line that it kicks my wife off (she works at home using a comp transcribing ) had to call a couple of time to get the noise fixed on the line I think it is solved for now. If DSL was available I would have it, make her job easier for down loading files & web browsing quicker for me   but I have a work comp that is quick enough for browsing. Life deals us a different hand & you just have to go on. But I'll take the dial up & leave the city (neighbors stacked on top of you ) behind :D
That's my boy, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

cheatermk3, Duce, where do you guys live, Siberia?  :?  Cripe I live out in the sticks between the cotton fields and the turkey houses.   :-)  A trip to the "convenience" store takes literally 15 minutes.  The nearest grocery store is 25 minutes away and a trip to the nearest big chain department store or big chain home store is 40 minutes or better but I still have cable out here.  Heck, if I didn't have cable I would only get 3 or 4 television channels with a roof antenna.

Nearest cable to here is 17 miles, I've never asked about DSL, can't afford it anyway. My dial up online connection is always much faster than I can type, and by far faster than I can read. It's fast enough that I don't feel like I'm missing anything waiting on it from one page to the next and it only costs me 10 bucks a month for unlimited time online. I believe a heavy lightening storm that came through two weeks ago took out a section of the main trunk line, as my neighbors were having the same trouble, and it just took 'em a while to find it. Nice to be back up for sure.
