.45 Colt loads
« on: March 17, 2005, 07:15:38 PM »
..for the Vaquero and Bisley Blackhawk.
The .45 Colt is a classic handgun cartridge. I load for both my Rugers.
I've gone the crazy 'cram all the H-110 into the case you can" route.
Accuracy was fine, but it's really a bit more than I need to shoot on a regualr basis.
I have 5 pounds of 2400 and a bunch of moly coated hard cast 300 grain bullets.
I only shoot Starline brass.
I would think a 300 grain lead flat nose would do anything I'd ask of a handgun at about 900 to 1000 f.p.s.
Got any suggestions for a load?
I was thinking in the neighborhood of 15 to 16 grains of 2400.

I load a 255 gr rnfp (.454) over 16 gr 2400 for my 45 colt for plinking VERY accurate ** keep those .454 leads under 900fps and no problem with leading after 3000 rounds.

With 2400, I'd start at about 13grs. and work up to about 15grs. with those 300gr. bullets.  Probably around 13.5grs. should do what you need. BOL
