savage 24f aftermarket stocks?
« on: March 18, 2005, 03:43:32 AM »
Hi I have a savage 24f in 22hornet/20ga. The stock is to long for my taste and was wondering if there are aftermarket stocks for them . The stock has a 1inch screw on butt plate ,are there just flat plates available for it to shorten the length of pull up? Thanks for any help given ,Snowman485  :D

Howdy.  A friend of mine wanted to buy wood stocks for his 24 f in the same combination.  He ordered it from Boyds.  The stocks are beautiful pieces of wood, however, they do not fit his 24f.  They are probably for a 24V.  That is my only experience with aftermarket stocks for the 24f.  Just thought I would share it with you.

Those stocks are too long.  Cut mine off 1/2 inch and it was still too long.  Cut another 1/2 inch off and it is now just right.  Take a piece of masking tape and put it around the stock where you want to shorten it.  Then cut it off on the taped line with a hacksaw.  Re-attach the butt plate.  It will be too big.  Put masking tape around the stock and sand the butt plate down to fit with a sander.  The masking tape will protect the stock while sanding.
