What types and brands of holsters are the best for carrying a scoped handgun in the field?

i like mikes alot i have ther shoulder holster but for my revolvers its just to much with a jacket on but i love ther um bandito one at least i think its spelled like that
but now if you want one of the best one around an like leather thers just one
an thats pistol packing ther really nice

I'm going to quote Graybeard here. The best way to carry a handgun when hunting...Is IN YOUR HAND. That being said...I love the Uncle Mikes'. They are very light and versatile. I bought ONE years ago..for a Ruger P-89. It fits everything else nicely from a 22mag Ruger single six, to CZ-52 and is also great for my 10 inch Contender. It still looks almost new after many times in the field and hiking through rough terrain and weather.

ditto what Robert said. I have a couple holsters and even a SLING attachment for my 44SBH.Uncle Mike's can be a bit noisy, but IF the gun is in my hand it doesn't matter! :-)

They are too expensive! So, I took one of the cheap soft cases that Cabela's gives away when you buy a cap and ball revolver, and I just added a strap to it. It goes across my chest in a cross-draw with the butt up. Everything is in the case and I just slide my hand onto the butt and draw the gun. The zipper is secured with a safety pin and the gun is perfectly secure and when I'm done hunting, I just unload and zip'er up and it's in its case.

I understand Graybeard's thinking, but I am one of those SERIOUS hunters... I look for that perfect tree to sit against, kick back, and open the latest Tom Clancy novel. :grin: Got to have a holster since I need both hands to turn the pages!

Without a doubt the best way to carry a revovler in the feild is in a chest holster. Its out of the way of packframes, sits above the line of your waders, and is easily accessable in almost any position. I have a survival sheath system chest holster for my 4" 629.

If I were to carry a scoped handgun as a primary hunting firearm I would probably use a single point sling. Both ends of the sling adapt to the grimp frame at the same point. If i were to do alot of climbing while hunting and needed both hands I would probably go with one of the pistol packing setups.

If I'm actually "hunting", mine is usually in my hand. I don't care for a scope on a hunting handgun, so mine have only iron sights, but I do carry them in a bandolier style shoulder holster that I made myself out of a modified Uncle Mikes nylon holster.

I do as Dan C. When in my tree stand my gun is on my lap and my ungloved hand is in gun rug staying warm and ready...this is the best I have come up with.

I have a tear open fanny pack that I could wear in a Mc Donalds and no one would know.Unload it and it's in it's case.

The best way to carry a handgun when hunting (or any other time for that matter)...loaded!
