The good book says:  1977

The K-38/M-14 is my favorite wheelgun.  If you shoot 38 wadcutters in it. you will have an heirloom that will outlast your grandchildren.

Thanks Happy hunter for the reply. That is one of my favorite pistols. I do shoot only my own cast bullets through it 150 swc and 158 rn. It is very accurate. It`s never seen a jacketed bullet as far as I know. I bought it in the late 80`s new in the original blue cardboard box. I buy and sell and trade all the time; but this one is a keeper. Thanks again for looking that up for me.

Sounds like you have a life-long relationship...I feel the exact same way about mine.

Now if I could just find a K-32 to go along with it.

TeamNelson,

Yours is a 1971.

The "good book" is:  Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson  by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas

I can not seem to find a GK398xx.

Could the "G" be a 6?  ie: 6K398xx?

If this is the case it is 1974.

Thanks HappyHunter, You are absolutely correct it is a "6". Guess my eyes aren't what they once were. However the S&W stamping on the crane is not all that legible.

Appreciate your checking the date for me; I bought the gun used many years ago & have often wondered about its DOB.

Rod. :D
