quickdtoo tell me more about your Mueller 2-7x32 Multi-shot
« on: March 19, 2005, 09:07:29 AM »
I am thinking this may be the perfect all-round hunting scope.  I find that I rarely if ever use higher than 7 power to make a shot in a hunting situation and like the idea of having 2X power at close range, dense cover situations far more than needing 8X or 9X at long range shots which I almost ever attempt in the field.

I am considering getting a pair of 'em for a .222 Rem and a .270 Win.  I also like the idea of using matching scopes for these two guns that cover 90% of my shooting situations.

I have been getting almost exactly the same trajectory from the right loads on these two guns and I think using identical scopes might make me a better, more accurate shooter.

Right now, I think the Mueller 2-7x32 Multi-shot is the best scope for the money I can use for this experiment.  Specifically I'd like to know how useful the range-finding aspects of the circle reticle proves to be on the range or in the field.  I also like the lighted dot for low-light situations.  I am a big believer in being there early and staying put late in the field.

Thanks quick (or anyone else for that matter) for input.

Here's my review on it....

http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=49378

I haven't hunted with it yet, but I look forward to using it....Don't know about the ranging capability, it's designed as a turkey hunting scope, the circle will cover 15" at 40yds, so I don't think it would work well as a range finder reticle out at ranges you need to verify. The FOV within the circle would be too large to use to determine range past a close range shot. The X-hairs within the cirlce are much finer than those outside the circle so it will provide a nice sight picture at longer ranges. The parallax setting is also set at 75yds, so it's more appropriate for a shotgun or 30-30 woods/brush gun. The red dot works great, I've only sighted it in so far on the 30-30, at 100yds, I was shooting less than 2" groups with the rem 150gr core-lokts.  I have other Mueller red dots and really like em, the Multi-shot is no exception!!

I suppose you could easily get a fix on the size of the circle at higher powers at specific ranges.  If so, perhaps one could get some usable range finding capabilities.  If it covers 15" at 40 yds on 2X it will cover 15" on 3X at a greater distance and so forth...  If so, a deer size target circle could be ranged by trial and error on the range.

With the close range capabilities of this scope and the potential range finding capabilities this could be a winner in the field.  I'd be curious to hear what you find out one you start playing with it a bit more.

If for instance, the circle covers 15" at a usable long range distance on 7X you would have a usable range finder.  Mueller might even be able to provide that data.

I'm still intrigued.

Thanks guys.  I need to learn about these things as I consider a slug gun for deer hunting.  All the info you have talked about is helping me learn more about how scopes work and what types to look at.  Thank you all.

What do you think of using this scope for a Ruger 10/22?  Do you see any problems with parallax?  It would be nice to have the cross hairs for fine target shooting and also have the red-dot available for quick target aquisition and rapid fire.

There are some RFCers using it for their 22 rimfires, they apparently like it, the 75yd parallax is acceptable, although not ideal, depends on the average shot distance and what the zero range is, I would think a typical 50-60yd zero would work fine.
