Anybody ever make your own grips?
« on: March 19, 2005, 10:48:45 AM »
I'm definitely going to buy that Doug Turnbull gun but he wants TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS for wooden grips and that's just a bit rough on my titewad ways!  Is it any real trick to buy some cocobolo wood and make a set of grips?  I'm not much of a craftsman but that level of project looks do-able and perhaps there is a book, website, video, etc. out there somewhere that shows a real neophyte a trick or two.

For just cocobolo grips, why not just buy a set from LETT (OEM manufacturer for Ruger)  www.lettgrips.com  or check out the grips made by CaryC Does some beautiful work (tell him Blkhawk73 sent ya.) www.clccustomgrips.com

That link is a real winner. I have several blanks all different colored laminates and was looking to make some 1911 grip panels. Now I can include my single actions. Thanks a bunch!!!

I have been known to make a set of stag grips for a North American Arms .22mag . I used a grinding rock and a file . Takes a little time but they work good !!!!
