I'm with you on that one Chris.
In either the rifle, or the pistol though, the .308 is inherently more accurate as it's not quite as "overbore" dimensionally, than the .30-06.
Although the accuracy difference isn't super great, it's enough to make LE, and Federal agencies, as well as the military to take notice of it's exceptional accuracy benefits when it comes to Sniper/Observer teams.
I trained with my ERT team as well as certify with others, and 90% of all the teams that were there, were packing the .308 bolt guns.
I have an Encore in .243, and a Striker in 7mm-08. Anything built on the .308 cartridge seems to group just that much better.
