Author Topic: Rem Mountian LSS Vs Win Classic Featherweig (Read 877 times)

I've decided on a 7MM-08 in a light weight rifle. I had kind of settled on the Rem 700 Mountain LSS but got to hold a Winchester 70 Classic Featherweight today and it sure did fit well and I really like the looks of it as well.

Winchester has a new Stainless model of their M70 Classic Featherweight that I would be interested in.

So......between these two...which way to go? Both are stainless, one has laminated stock, the other wood. Both have 22" barrels. What are the Pro's / Cons, the Good, the Bad, & the ugly of these two rifles?

I'm one of those oddballs who think a hunting rifle should be made of SS and wear a laminated stock. I'm also a die hard Remington fan. I own the Remington 700 LSS Mtn. Rifle in 7-08 and it is my main hunting rifle. I also own them in .30-06 and .260 Rem. :lol:

I use only the Hornady Light Mag ammo using the 139 grain BTSP bullet and get near 1/2 MOA groups from it consistently in my rifle and have never needed a follow up shot on game yet. Blam flop every time.

Have 3 mountain rifles now and in the process of getting a lss .260
later this year. I am really pleased with mine, shoot well and the carry
very well. I like the slender stock as my hands are not very large.

Check the safety out on both to see which 1 you like better. I think
both will shoot well.

What about rifling twist rate? The winchester has a 1 in 10 and the remington a 1 in 9 1/4. Not a whole lot of difference, but would one favor heavier bullets better than the other?

Thank you all so much for your responses, information, opinions, and recommendations. I chose the Remington Mountian LSS and went out and picked it up at lunch today. Beautiful gun. Sure hope it shoots as good as it looks!! I'll keep ya posted.

Got my basses, rings & scope in today and got them installed. Got Leupold QRW basses & rings and a Burris 3-9x40 Fullfield II w/ballistic plex reticle in silver. Really looks good on the stainless / laminated Mountial LSS.

Was hoping to be able to shoot it for the first time this weekend, but theres 80% chance of rain for both Sat & Sun. Oh well maybe next weekend.
