Upgrading Hunting suit.

Hey folks, Im looking at upgrading my hunting suit.  Currently I have a 2x insulated camo coverall I bought from Wal MArt along with other clothes I layer underneath.  The problem is that since I wear 2x to begin with, all the layering makes it real restrictive and kills a lot of the air layers thus making the layering not to great.  SO, Iv been think of upgrading for a while now.  I want to go up to a 3x so I can layer much more effectively.  Water resistant is nice, but not totally necessary, the big thing is warmth.  Also, Im going to switch from coveralls to Jacket and bibs because coveralls, at least on me, tend to pull down om my shoulders when I kneel or bend, which can be uncomfortable.  So far this is what Im thinking:

Cabelas sells Walls Insulated jackets and bibs for about $60 (jacket) and $80 (bibs).  Anyone have/use these and what do you think of them?  I thought about maybe using wool for layering as well.

And next, I thought about going with wool period.  Like the old wool green bibs and the red flannel wool jacket the "old timers" used to wear.  Im having a bit of trouble finding these at a "decent" price (meaning it looks like Id have to pay over $120 per piece.)

So Im interested in hearing your opinions on these or any other idea you might have.  This is being done on a budget, meaning I cant really spend more than, say $150, for the a complete outfit.

The local army navy store carries loads of military wool from different countries around the world.   Most of it is very reasonable and usually in good shape.......I love wool in cold wet weather.....wool keeps it's warmth when wet........

Keep checking eBay.  Sometimes you can get Woolrich and Filson pretty cheap.  You can also get Johnson, Codet and others cheaper yet.

A new Codet 8 Pointers reversible 24 oz. wool coat in XXXL is $100.
A new Codet 8 Pointers 24 oz. wool bibs in XXL are $70
That is pretty close to your limit and is pretty good stuff.  You could do some layering with surplus stuff.

I'm a retired coal miner, and wore coveralls for years. The trick is to belt them loosely, raise your arms to make sure you have good movement, then push the belt back down where it was and tighten it, blousing the top half slightly. I still think that bibs and a coat have an advantage in hunting, but crawling around the mines got the "dress tail" of the coat soaked with muddy water and the coveralls worked better for me there.  :wink:
