Different Questions On 3 Screw Super Black Hawks
« on: March 20, 2005, 02:01:22 PM »
What type of Hammer did the three screw Super Black Hawk come with?
Was it the newer style with wider thumb piece?

What about the ejector rod housing?
Aluminum or steel?

I'm currently looking at an excellent un-converted three screw and the only things I'm concerned with is the Aluminum ejector rod housing and the new style Super Black Hawk wide Hammer spur. I know the rest of the gun is original but I'm not sure of these two items.

Serial number of the one I'm looking at is: 80-6449X

I have the gun set aside in my name for the next few days.
Price is $359.95 before tax.

Blueing is near perfect.  No pits or surface rust.  Barrel is clean with sharp rifeling. Muzzle crown is perfect. Grips have no marks but are a little dirty from handling.  Action is as tight as a new gun.

I guess I could always fins a deep blued, high gloss steel ejector rod housing. I plan on putting money down on the gun tomorrow.

Thanks for any input you may have.

It sounds like everything on it is original and the price sounds pretty good too. The hammer alone would sell for $100. I'd shoot the heck out of it with moderate loads. No sense punishing such a nice gun.

The SBH ejector housing was made of steel until 1963.  The alloy housing would be found on any 80-xxx gun, however that's no reason to have to live with that.  The most reasonably priced and very well made steel ejector housing is made by Story.  I believe Brownells may sell the Story housing.  You have to stipulate what diameter screw it has, as there were two sizes, and there is the older version with the stud, which the alloy housing equiped barrel wouldn't have.

The 3 screw hammer had the widened spur, which the conversion kit does not have.

That is a very good price, jump on it.

Thanks for the replys.
The gun is now on layaway.
I look forward to next seasons deer hunting with this old gun and hard cast lead bullets.
