Hogzilla on TV

Hey folks  Did anyone see the show on National Geographic channel last night about hogzilla?  They took a whole hour to get around to diggin' up the "body" to measure it and take samples for DNA.  Turns out as many of us probably guessed.  Not quite as big as claimed but still a big porker.
It measured about 8 feet long nose to tail and estimated to weigh 800 lbs.
The dna showed it to be a crossbred-- half Russian and half hampshire.  He was estimated to be just 7 years old.  Think how big he might have gotten.  He was slippin' in to a fish farm at night and somehow gettin' a big bait of fish feed pretty often and that's how they figgr he got to such size.  They did show an 1100 lb boar that won the biggest pig contest at the Iowa State Fair last year.  Hogzill could have easily hid in his shadow.

Yeah, that was one big hog  But they didn`t say how long he had been buried? If he was buried long, he could have been more than the 800lbs, that they said he was. I`m sure he lost alot of fluids, while in the ground. I remeber the guy that shot it said the hog smelled really bad, thats why he didn`t want to eat it. But you would have thought he would at least had the head mounted, he said something about that, but my dogs were barking, so I didn`t hear what he said.

In fact the guy sort of made me  , if he wasnt going to do anything with the animal, why shoot it. ? That would have at least left a great trophy for someone else to harvest.

How's it goin, Bulletmaker ?

I been busy as a two peckered billygoat, finally got semi well, and started a fish guide business, been on the sandies for a week or so.

I know that in some locales they see those feral hogs as nothing but a nusance and shoot em on sight, could be the mind set of the fella that shot the big pig.

You know how that frame of mind screwed up the place that (WE) know about.
Hey, hold my beer and watch this.

My first thought was, "Why would anyone waste 1000 lbs of hog?"  I didn't know that it had been eating fish food.  That might give its meat a different flavor!

Glad your feeling better, where you gideing at? and when do you think them sand bass are going to start down here where I`m at? The creek`s high, we been doing some bigfoot investigating at 05:30 till about 11:00 AM but no success except for some tree knocking and some hollers once in a while , no sightsings however. The weather as you know has been cold, I hope this week it will warm up and the sand bass start to moving.

I just hate to see a big old brute like that killed and then buried. Looks like to  me the guy could have at lease had the head mounted. Yeah it probably cost him about $400.00, but that was sure a waste, I think.

Bulletmaker, my plan is to do most of my guide work on Oologah, but if like this past week things turn sour there I can go to Grand River. I want to concentrate on the cats in late summer. I can get on them pretty regularly, and I think I can show folks a good day on the water.

I also thought early spring sandbass would work, but I've chatted with some more experienced people in the fish guide business, and they say if I take people out for a sandbass trip that I'll have to use live bait.

Seems most folks haven't the experience to cast jigs and lures in the sometimes trying conditions you find yourself in with early spring sandies.

It's time in your neighborhood, just two ot three warm sunny days, and things should be poppin.

That would be a big ole head for sure, but I would be much happier with an English skull mount, rather than a hide mount.

I don't know which's uglier, a moose head mount or a boar head mount!  :? Frankly, I wouldn't want to have either one watching me from my livingroom wall!
