Cicero Rufus Perry (Old Rufe)
« on: February 11, 2003, 12:06:55 PM »
I'm on the advisory board for the Captain C.R. Perry Museum in Johnson City, TX, and have done considerable research on Old Rufe.  From the age of 13, when he carried a dispatch for Sam Houston during Texas' war for independence from Mexico, until he served as the first commander of Company "D", Frontier Battalion, Texas Rangers, he was involved in many historical events, and was wounded numerous times.  He was with the Ranger unit that first used the Colt Paterson in combat (see his account in my Colt Paterson post).  The following link is an account of his narrow escape from a raiding party of Indians near present day Uvalde, TX.
