New model single-six sights on a Blackhawk?
« on: March 21, 2005, 04:31:58 PM »
For a long time I have wanted to try a set of fiber optic sights on my Super Blackhawk...I noticed today that Williams website lists a set of their fire sights that fit a new model Single-Six.  My question is, will these fit my Super Blackhawk?  It seems to me that they would, but wanted to check and make sure first.  Thanks for any ideas ahead of time!

I have the Williams Fire Sights on my Ruger New Model Single Six.  Would love them on my Blackhawk but my front sight on my Blackhawk isn't removeable.  Is the front sight on a Super Blackhawk removeable?

No, the front sight on my SB isn't removeable, but I've discussed this project with my gunsmith before and he thought he could fabricate something.  I figured if the rear sight would fit then atleast half the battle would be won.  Do you have any pictures of the sights on your single-six?  How durable do they seem to be?  Thanks for your help!

The rear sights are the same.  They will interchange.  The single six has a single screw holding on the front sight.  The patridge style sight from the Mark IIs will fit on the single six.  The Super Blackhawks had a couple different variations of front sights.  If you have a 10" barrel, you could possibly have a screwed on front sight as Ruger made a run of guns with a 10" bull barrel for silhouette shooters.  The sights will fit this gun, but the Bomar/Lansing set-up is better in my opinion.  The majority of Super Blackhawks have a front base that is sweated on at the factory and a removable blade.  Ken Light and/or Lansing (Bill Boros) may have a sight that will work.  They fit in the blade openings on Dan Wesson revolvers and on some of the FA revolvers.  You would have to make sure the blade on the base of the site fits in the blade opening in the base on the SBH barrel.  You would also have to drill and tap the sight base for set screws to hold it in place.

Go here to see my Ruger New Model Single Six with Williams Firesights.
Forgive my lack of photography skills.

Wonder if you could have the barrel on the Blackhawk and/or Super Blackhawk drilled and tapped for the front sight like the Single Six is from the factory?

I had Williams Fire Sights on my Ruger GP100 and it seen alot of "woods" time.  Found them to be very durable.  Don't forsee any problem with the ones on my Single Six either.

LMM, thanks for the pictures.  That is exactly what I was looking for.  I like the idea of drilling and tapping the front sight base like the single-six.  I think that I am going to give it a try.  Steve P, do you have a website for the Bomar/Lansing sights?  I would like to take a look at them as well.  I appreciate all your guys input.  Thanks!

If I could find a good gunsmith in my area would look into doing that with my Blackhawk.  Keep us posted on how it goes.

I tried to find a link to a website for Bill Boros or Lansing Shooting Supply.  No luck.  I did get an email for Ken Light.  Send him an email and he will probably be able to send you pictures or a flyer.

kenlightca@earthlink.net

The last time I checked, Ruger wanted $100 to put on the bull barrel.  This would have the thickness to hold the screwed on sight.   From looking at the base of that fire sight, if that is a solid aluminum block, a good machinist could mill out that to fit over the base on your barrel.  Have a Community College close?  They will usually take on a project.

Good luck,

Yes the front sight is a solid block.  Never thought about that approach.  Having it machined to fit over the factory base. Great idea!

Reading some other forums and posts, found Weigand Combat.  A person could use their front sight base for Ruger single actions w/  their fiber optic front blade in combination with Williams rear fire sight.  Does anybody seen any compatibility problems as far as front sight height or width in relation to the rear sight?  If a person decided they didn't like the fiber optics it would make it easier to try something different.  Just contemplating out loud.  Thanks again for all your ideas. http://www.jackweigand.com/interfs.html
