were to find a detailed reassembly guide on the internet, because I will never get it without one. I wish I had never taken apart. The barrel can not come apart from the frame can it or does it. Help appreciated

http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/index.htm

This site is for the MKII, but they are quite similar. Good luck. It's not too bad after you do it once.

It has been some time since you have attempt to clean, or you gunked the this gun many times. If  you have managed the extraction of the (what ever they call it) which it sounds like you have, Every thing should come apart. Spray some solvent on it. This a great shooter and a good value for the $$. I will never buy one again for this reason. The assembly is totaly BS. The amazing thing is Ruger has never addressed this problem. Oh I have over stated this, wait till you reassemble it.

The Ruger website has a copy of the manual for the Mark I that you can print off.  It has manuals for all their older firearms.

You can't and don't need to take the barrel off the frame.  Reassembly of this gun isn't that hard once you hold it in a certain position to re-engage the mainspring in the frame.  This should be in the on-line instructions.

I have for many years hated the Ruger Mk1, because of the re-assembly. A couple of days ago I was discussing a problem with the C/S mgr of Ruger. When our problem was finished I mentioned to him that engineering should work on the assembly problem. Over the phone he had me take apart and re-assemble in 30 sec's. To be truthful at my desk on the phone I kept dropping parts the first time. Now I am glad I didn't buy a BuckMark, as another Ruger is in order.  Assemble all with the muzzle down. then slip in the (first section you took out), note that the pin is now in the top of the barrel frame. squeeze the trigger point the muzzle up and lock in place. Sorry I can't give a better description but can't find the manual(probably burned in frustration).
