How does the Survivor 410/45 group?
« on: March 22, 2005, 05:46:36 AM »
I wasn't sure were to post this topic but I guess here will do.
I have been looking at the Survivor modle in 410/45Colt and was just wondering how accurate it is. It's not a target rifle by any means, yes I know, but how capable is it?

Depends on how well you can shoot with just a bead front sight.

At least the Rossi has sights:

I have one and mounted a scope on it ( cheap 3x9 w/ duplex cross hairs) and it will shoot minute of clay pigeon at 100 yds.  I use the scope as a ghost ring site when shooting the 410.  My two main loads are 5.8 gr unique under a 200 swc and 22 gr h110 under a 300 gr CDP cast or any other 300gr bullet.  Hope this helps. ....... lost

As Lostchild pointed out, the addition of a low power scope or even a red dot would solve that issue, the Weaver 82 base is readily available and at $7, cheap enough, comes with mounting screws.....

I wasn't aware that it was drilled and tapped for a scope mount.
If so it makes this an even sweeter little gun 8) .

From everything I've learned and read, all current production rifle barrels are drilled and tapped for a scope rail, even the BC and Target!

Thanks, Alabama Outlaw! Don't quite have 100 Handis yet.......but I'm workin on it! Don't know about the good shot part, either....the Handis can certainly shoot better than I'm always capable of, though!!

Cool   I think this would be a killer little gun with either a RedDot or cross hair. This just might be the determining factor of my next purchase. Anyone have any more feedback with on of these???

I got a 410/45 barrel off a guy here. put it on a pardner reic.
this barrel is Not drilled for scope just front bead.
got some rem. 240 grain round nose 45 colt long.
stared at about 25 yards. shot dead on left to right.
but hight. moved out to 50 still hight. out to 80 still 3-4 in hight.
looks like it might be on at 100. 410 didnt pattern very well .
littel gun is a blast to shoot. Rich
I rather be over the hill than in it

That's why I said current production, I don't think the original H&R products were all d&td.

My 45/410 was not drilled and tapped  had it done for about 25$.  I've also experimenteted with using the 450Mongo loads with a slight twist.  The 450Mongo is a 444Marlin necked up to hold a .452 bullet, I used the 445Supermag case ( because I had about 75 on hand for free ).  This longer case seems to help different weight bullets shoot to the same poi, at least in my gun.  Hope this helps ( real nice to be able to give back to the forum for a change ).......lost

I tell ya Jeff, I came a hair from ordering one today at Walmart. If I know I can put a scope or red dot on one for sure, I will go order it. I just think it would be cool to have a little 45 cal. cannon with a reddot on it, a perfect little gun for brush purposes.
