just got a new toy,now I need a holster
« on: March 22, 2005, 03:51:46 PM »
I just picked up a Ruger Redhawk 44 mag.I've been hunting a long time with a contender in a bandoleer holster, but nowI want a belt holster.Any suggestions? I'd like a nice leather job, right hand crossdraw.I was wondering what you all thought,hunting/playing with a wheelgun is new to me so I thought I'd see what some of you like to use and why.SGB

Congratulations on the new gun....

I use an inexpensive leather holser from Academy, it says Hunter on it.  I like the price the best $11...

I like the EPS 1920 Crossdraw. This holster cost 65 bucks and is hand made. EPS does top notch work.

:cb2: Ya might want to check out these field holsters from Mernickle, too.

:cb2: I have to Hunter holsters, model 68-100 for scoped handguns. One small for my S&W 617 (.22), and one full sized for a (.44) Ruger Bisley.

www.huntercompany.com/hunter.html

Mernickle is making a cross draw for me, even as we speak (write?), for a 4" M-57 (.41). I told them I wanted it for field use and concealed carry, and they fixed me up with a new style that isn't on the web site yet.

You started out with the bandoleer holster, but I haven't tried it yet. Got my eye on the Pistol Packaging Banditos holster. It looks pretty sharp.

When carrying a regular (non-scoped) .44 in the field, I just use my regular CSA single action rig. It's pretty comfortable.

Someone else I looked at that you may in interested in for a cross-draw rig is Rusty Sherrick. His stuff looks pretty darn good. Good enough that I may have to buy a new gun just to order a new holster for it!

Good luck. We have thrown a lot of information at'cha. Hope some of it helps. Let us know what you decide!

Try the Galco dual position Phoenix.  You can wear it strongside or crossdraw.
I think the Bianchi Cyclone is the same style as well.
A bad day of hunting is better than a good day at the golf course.
