How Do I...
« on: March 24, 2005, 02:23:26 PM »
Reading what you fellows wrote, I ended up catching something. I have this urge to get a Handi-rifle. Don't matter I already have bolts and Contenders, this is a new itch. I want a .30-30 with synthetic stock but apparently they they make that one. OK, which one could I get and have a .30-30 barrel fitted? Do they make a .357 Mag barrel? Does anyone make a barrel in 7.62 X 39? Sorry for all the questions....

Scrounger, I'm pretty sure you could get just about any of the rifles, not shotguns, and have a barrel fitted to it, so Im pretty sure you can get a 30-30 barrel for it, somebody correct me if im wrong, im pretty sure you can order replacement stocks for the 30-30 if you bought it and took the wood ones off, then you could either keep those or do whatever with them and order synethics from the factory, im not sure about the .357 barrel (someone else will prb know), and I think in previous posts there were people talking about the 7.62 barrel, I don't think it has been out yet, I'm not 100% sure about this so please don't get mad if im wrong, but i think they are in production, and i thought it was only a barrel right now and you couldn't purchase a 7.62 gun, but correct me if im wrong, i was just trying to remember what was posted in previous posts...hopefully someone can awnser your .357 ?, and i hope i awnsered the ?'s you were looking for...MIdeerhunter

The 30-30 barrel has been unavailable from the accessory barrel program for quite a while, but that could change anytime. The availability of the 7.62x39 barrel has been up in the air, H&R told Dennis that they would not be available until July, Tanoose was told sooner...no one has seen one and reported about it yet...FWIW, the bores on the 7.62x39 will be .308, not the .310 bore that will shoot the cheap milsurp ammo well. H&R made a run of 100 .357 barrels earlier this year, they may have some left, but the only way to know is call or email H&R. If you want a synthetic stocked 30-30, I'd buy the wood stocked model from Walmart for $188 and then see if someone wants to trade ya for a synthetic stock set or just order the set from H&R for $47 or $49 depending on the style.

I didn't say it wasn't listed, they just haven't had any barrels available...they have been out of 2 of the 3 barrels I've ordered from them....first they were out of 25-06 barrels when I ordered that, took 9 weeks for it, then they were out of 45-70 barrels when I ordered it....fortunately, they got both instock in a relatively short time...the 30-30 barrel has been out of stock for quite a while, as far as I know....and they may well be in stock now, but I'd sure check before I sent a frame in for one....I ended up buying a 30-30 barrel on ebay...

scrounger, the wholesaler Jerrys Sport Center had the 30-30 synthetic listed at a low "clearance type" in last summer/falls sales flyer. This could lead one to believe they don't sell that well or they were giving a deal on it.

The 30-30 is a great round out the handi. Plenty of chamber throat space to load long spire point bullets and excellent accuracy. We have two of them here in Cheeseville. We especially prefer the rimmed case versions of the handi...........Chainsaw
