S&W 629cl Questions
« on: March 25, 2005, 01:00:59 AM »
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anywone knew the ballpark figures of velocity gains achieved with an 8 inch barrel over the 6.5 inch.  Also, does one typically get better accuracy from the longer the barrel? How about recoil reduction?  I am thinking very hard about what 629 to get for deer hunting next year. Please help!

thanks,
Preston

All things being equal, you might get another 75 f/s from the 8" barrel.  As far as accuracy goes, it surprises a lot of people that a short barreled pistol is as inherently accurate as one with a longer barrel.  The longer barreled pistol is easier to shoot more accurately though due to its longer sight radius.  If scoping the gun, barrel length difference in a 6.5" and 8" barrel won't make a wit of  difference
