Lost my best friend today. (Father)
« on: March 28, 2005, 05:36:11 PM »
I got word at work at lunch time, my father passed away this morning.
He was 75 years old. He was very active and loved to bird hunt better than anyone I've ever known. Man, I'm gonna miss him. We had planned a bird hunt out in OK this fall. Even bought a new shotgun for the trip.
I sure was not ready to give him up. I thought I might have five more years with him, but I was wrong. My mother died back in 1986. So I'm 45 and both parents are gone.
Going to give him a full military funeral. He was a Korean War Vet. And recived the Bronze Star. He made me proud of him.
Just wanted to let you know cause your like family.

Lord, sorry for your loss amigo.  Know your sadness; my dad was my closest friend all my life.  He was one of the first NRA safety instructors in New York State, an assistant game wardern, a part-time cop, steel worker, boyscout leader.  Taught me most of what I knew about guns, hunting, the outdoors, and the life impoving lessons there are in those things.  He and I had had great times together growing up.  My one huge regret in spending 21.5 years in the Navy was I spent so much of it overseas and away from home.  Managed to get home for deer season a few times, and those were great.  He died of Cancer in August of 84, just after I retired back in April, and he and I had some plans we never got to.  Next time.  God Bless he and you and all his loved ones.

Sorry for your loss my friend. You are with your second family here and we hurt with you.  Sounds like you have some great memories to keep and pass on to your kids as well.

Dennis,  my condolences to you and the rest of your family.  Losing  your father is incredibly hard.  Many of us know this already.  The rest will learn it in time.  Its most important to remember that although you won't see him he is still with you always.
From what you have said I know you were proud of your father, and I'm sure that he was proud of you.

Take care, rely on your friends, and may God Bless You.
My prayers are always answered,  sometimes the answer is no...........

Deepest sympathy to you and your family. It's a painful loss that prayer and time will heal. And, be grateful for all the years you had together, an opportunity that some never experience.

Dennis,
A loss fo this kind is never easy to accept. I know the shock, the numbness, and the helplessness you must be feeling. A sudden loss is always harder because you are knocked off your feet so by it because you didn't expect it. We all deal in our own ways, but I know friends and comforting words are appreciated. My thoughts and prayers are with you right now, my friend.

Lord, be with my firend Dennis and his family right now in their time of loss. Give Dennis comfort and a closeness that only can come from you. Give him peace and a freedom to grieve in his own comfort zone, but let the time of his grief be fulfilled quickly, and quickly replaced with your joy. Help him to remember his Dad with a fondness and not through sorrow. Give him the strength to lead his family through this ordeal with the qualities of manhood that his Dad instilled in him. And through it all, do as you  have promised in your Word, "sticketh closer than a brother".
Thank you in Jesus' name..............Amen.

Very sorry for your loss. I will remember you and your family now, and a special time tonight at the supper table with the rest of the family. I am fortunate to have both parents living in my home, and I can certainly understand the empty feeling you must have. Prayer is about all someone like me can offer and I gladly give it.
God bless you during this time.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

I lost my father late last year.  A Korean and VietNam war veteran.  Gall bladder cancer spread real quick and took him before the kids could get together to visit.  Doctor said he had about a month left but he died 3 days after leaving the hospital.

Funny thing is I went through a very stressful period about a month after I got back from the funeral.  I started slurring my words and it felt like my tongue wasn't working correctly.  I could almost stop my slurring if I meditated and controlled my breathing.  I went to the Dr. here and he said I was going through some stress and that he was  amazed that I could control it myself.  I figured out it was partly guilt because I didn't make it out to see him until it was too late so I spent about an hour one night just talking to him and telling him all the things I wanted to say to him face to face.  I finally told him that I had to get on with my life and anything else we had to say to each other would have to wait until I got up there with him.

Seemed to have worked because I'm still under stress but not slurring anymore.
