Dennis, I'm sorry to hear of your loss, and you are in my prayers.  Collectively, we are losing a great generation, my father was Navy and fought in WWII. That generation of men who fought in Europe, the pacific and Korea are passing, and we all feel the loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I lost my mother a year ago so I have felt the hurt and pain you are now feeling. All you can do is thank God for the time you had with him. Remember, smile about the good times and laugh about the bad.....hang in there buddy, God has a funny way of taking that hurt away.

I'm truly sorry to hear that ,sounds like a great man. Treasure those memories of hunting trips and time spent together. I know how you feel. I lost my Dad Christmas eve and father in law new years eve. My wife does the crying for both of us, I miss them both as I know you'll miss your Dad. My way of dealing with stuff like this is practical and logical. I got right to work on the things that needed to be taken care of. You have every reason to be proud of your Dad's service to his country. Remember the good times and continue to live your life as if he was watching you all the time, because now he is.

Loss Of A Parent
« Reply #38 on: March 29, 2005, 04:35:11 PM »
This was written by Frank Costanza, I hope it comforts you by reading it:

God touches each of our lives from birth to death. As we grow we feel the touch of God (or as some refer to it; our Guardian Angel) many times. Most often we are not aware of that presence in our life as we brush it off as luck. Such as when we first learned to ride a bicycle and we teeter and almost fall but regain our balance and ride on. God, or the wing of our Guardian Angel, buoyed us up and protected us. Later on we have many close calls with tough situations and God pulls us through. God helps us constantly by putting loving people in our lives: family, friends, lovers (Remember that first kiss?). Then there are the sadder moments when God touches our lives, those are the times when God calls one of those close to us to join Him in everlasting love and light. God reaches out and takes the hand of our loved one and they leave this world and go with God. We feel the pain of their departure and are saddened by the loss. We must rest assured and be happy, not sad, when God calls our loved ones away because they are now in a much better place full of love and peace. This is especially true when the one who departs is a parent. God put those special people in our lives for love and guidance and when God feels their job is done He opens His arms and welcomes them with love. All we can do is say goodbye and find comfort in the fact that God loves all of His creation and will not condemn His children but bring them to everlasting peace. From this heavenly vantage point our parents can watch over us constantly and be there when we need them. All one needs to do is look inward at the God within ans ask for help and He will provide whatever strength we require to get us through.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and family. Know these can be trying time. I lost my father in a farming accident in 1977, Sept 13th. He was only 61. I am now 61 but the hurt still lingers on. Dad taught me so much and made me the person I am today, even though he only had a 5th grade education, Dad was the smartest, wisest man I knew. May God grant you peace during this trying time. Another item I have to mention is that you are among friends.

Dennis,

I don't really know what to write to make things easier for you, but for those of us who are "next", it becomes a time of reflection on our accomplishments.  Our grief is not reduced and needs to be worked through, but there is also the realization of our greater responsibilities to others.

The mantle of being the "Patriarch" of the family was passed to me two and a half years ago and it is me who is looked to for wisdom and guidance.  It's me who is asked about the way things were in "the old days".  Part of what I have to offer is the wisdom and experiences of my father.  My goal is being as good as he was, and with no disrespect, becoming even better, for the sake of my children and grandchildren.  Being part of that goal, he continues to live in my thoughts and my expectations.

The assumption of those responsibilities is part of what fills that vacant spot in our hearts.

Grace and peace to you.

I'm right with ya there Dennis, with my mother passing just two weeks ago, The first place I went was here to my extended family. There's comfort in friends and we have a bunch here.
My Father is 81 and not in the best of health, I don't think it'll be long before he going  home, but I believe the good Lord is gonna take good care of him also. God Bless.

Guys I called Dennis last night and spoke with him at length, like nearly two hours I think. He really appreciates the comments here and all the thoughts and best wishes from everyone. He told me it means more to him than you could ever know.

Not sure when he will be back on here with us just yet. Tomorrow will be his dad's funeral. Tonight I'm sure they are at the funeral home for the viewing of the body. Always a tough time for the family. Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers please.
