This was written by Frank Costanza, I hope it comforts you by reading it:
God touches each of our lives from birth to death. As we grow we feel the touch of God (or as some refer to it; our Guardian Angel) many times. Most often we are not aware of that presence in our life as we brush it off as luck. Such as when we first learned to ride a bicycle and we teeter and almost fall but regain our balance and ride on. God, or the wing of our Guardian Angel, buoyed us up and protected us. Later on we have many close calls with tough situations and God pulls us through. God helps us constantly by putting loving people in our lives: family, friends, lovers (Remember that first kiss?). Then there are the sadder moments when God touches our lives, those are the times when God calls one of those close to us to join Him in everlasting love and light. God reaches out and takes the hand of our loved one and they leave this world and go with God. We feel the pain of their departure and are saddened by the loss. We must rest assured and be happy, not sad, when God calls our loved ones away because they are now in a much better place full of love and peace. This is especially true when the one who departs is a parent. God put those special people in our lives for love and guidance and when God feels their job is done He opens His arms and welcomes them with love. All we can do is say goodbye and find comfort in the fact that God loves all of His creation and will not condemn His children but bring them to everlasting peace. From this heavenly vantage point our parents can watch over us constantly and be there when we need them. All one needs to do is look inward at the God within ans ask for help and He will provide whatever strength we require to get us through.
