740 woodmaster won't eject case completely
« on: March 29, 2005, 03:46:30 AM »
I recently inhereted a 740  in 30-06 from my father-in law. I broke it down completely & cleaned all the crud out, as well as replaced the firing pin, because it wouldn't fire when I first got it. Now it fires, but won't eject the cases all the way. I have to complete the cycle and the case ejects.  Has any other 740-742 owners ever experienced this? I had  lighty lubed the action where the slide rides before I ever took it out to fire it. There is one thing that I did notice last night when I took the action spring off, was that the orifice ball that is inside the piece where  the gas comes in from(I don't know exactly what its called) to operate the semi function wouldn't come out when I took out the retaining screw that held the ball in. Is this normal or is this ball supposed to move feely? I would greatly appreciate ANY advice or help. Thanks & God Bless!
