The bolt won't drag on a colt as long as it is not worn down or miss fit.
The most common way of getting bolt drag on a SAA is by putting the
hammer on half cock loading or unloading the gun then letting the
hammer back down to rest without pulling it back to the full cock position
first. If you cock the hammer all the way back before lowering it you should
not get a ring.
As far as smiths in MO what part of the state are you in? There are a quite
afew of us around and several that are pretty decent with colts.

Check the "Split spring " and replace or reset by fire to cherry red and drenched in oil or just bend it .

Thanks for the info fellas. KSR I live in the Union area, which is about 50 miles west of STL.This gun is unfired, but when i first got it i had to play with it a little. In the process of cocking the gun maybe 20-30 times a very faint ring is starting to appear in between 1 or 2 of the notches. btw it is nickle finish. It is hard to see and could probably still be polished out but i dont want it to get any worse. Was thinking of sending it back to Colt to have them fix it but if i could get it properly done somewhere around here i probably would. Thanks again.

OK, you have several options to go to. You could send it back to Colt
and they should warrenty it since it is a "new" gun that has only been
cycled a few times. Or you could get in touch with a smith.
Here in MO one that I would recomend highly is Power Customs in
Gravois Mills. 573-372-5799.
If you want to send it off and have the bolt replaced and have the
internals slicked up some to help make it more reliable I would recomend
Peace Maker Specialties in Whitmore Ca. 530-472-3438.
There are a quite a few other options and smiths around that do
specialize in the SAA.
I do work on SAA's but these guys are some of the best.
