Forend
« on: March 31, 2005, 01:55:48 PM »
I havent had my encore rifle (7mm-08) but a few weeks and I was curious what the procedure is to ensure that the forend screws are tightened correctly and/ or the forend is installed right. I understand this can cause pressure problems on the barrel which in turn causes accuracy problems. Thanks in advance..

Some folks free float the forends by using a spacer/washer between the barrel and forend. I personally use fawcet washers and turn the screw heads to the same tension when I remove and reinstall the forend. This can be accomplished by orienting the screw slots to the same position each time and marking the front and rear screws to place them the same hole each time. Once you have the washers in place if you choose this route, the screw slots can easily be at 6:00 and 12:00 for the front and back screws. This might seen rediculous but it just eliminates one possibility for an accuracy issue.

Are you placing the washers on the screws? I understand they go inside the forend between the barrel and the forend. Placing them on the screws would be the only way I would think would allow free float every where else.
