Are they not building them anymore? the website doesnt list it. Sportsouth does have it in stock. Has anyone done much with one. It seems like a lot
of pressure for one of these babies. It can't take .375 win pressue for long and that is a smaller diameter cartridge at 10,000 psi less. I don't want to be a pessimist, could the chamber be re used for 50/70. Still a big 50  but a lot less pressue

Do a search on the 500 Smith in this forum and all your questions will be answered, it's been hashed out before, quite thoroughly I might add.

Where did you get your data on failure with the 375 Winchester?  I know a number of folks have bought BC's in 38-55, and at least some of them are using them as 375's.  Haven't heard of any problems until now.

I think you are underestimating the Handi.  The 375 is loaded to SAAMI spec the same as a 308 Win, which also has a larger case dia and case head, thus would also produce more rear thrust than the 375 Win.

I cannot see ANY problems with 375 pressures in the Handi.  Have given SERIOUS consideration to buying a 30-30 barrel and having it bored to 375 Win specs, or even 375/444 specs.  It will handle either.

Isn't the 500 S&W a new chamber for H&R in 2005-THIS year?
So why would they stop making them before they have got them out yet?

As with a couple other calibers, they just aren't available yet, but they are listed on the H&R web site....

You won't find it in the accessory barrel program....yet, dunno if that's gonna happen....

The more I think of it, the more I wonder if it will become something like Marlin's M1895RL in .475 Linebaugh/.480 Ruger...  Lots of interest and talk, only to find they are unable to make it due to pressure issues.   Hopefully it will come to fruition.

I emailed them still waiting for an answer guess I get one from them monday. I am hopeful to get one in 500. Going to try factory lead first
then find some good handloads since the 500 ammo is still pricy

There is no question to the strength of a SB2 frame Handi now. With
500 S&W loads in 60-65k range. Talk about power..plus the extra velocity
of a closed breech and the longer brl length (extra 100-200 fps over the revolver, I would say) .....That baby is going to rock....both ways.

Yeah, makes me feel a lot better about my heavy 20 project. Hmmm, a 500 S&W SB2, I can think of a few things to do with that.

The SAAMI spec for 500S&W pressure is 65,000.
Unless H&R/NEF specifies a lower than standard pressure for it's 500S&W, the rifle will have to be able to handle it.
Average loading data for this cartridge stops at around 50 to 55k...why I don't know.

My question is this; If the H&R can handle these pressures, why can't we get magnum RIFLE rounds in this rifle ?
The 500 S&W has a larger case head than the 375 H&H, so the case head force arguement is no longer valid !
Go MAGNUM/MAX LOAD or GO HOME !
Always use MUCH more gun than the minimum required to do the job.

got the reply from H&R and they said it would be mid year, so I assume
around June or July.
