Finally shot my 10" 44

Recoil is not bad.  I thought that it would be worse then my S&W629, but it was about the same.  It definately seems more accutate - at 100 yards, I had a consistant group.

Now that its all set-up, the fun begins.  Finding what it likes to eat.  2400 seems pretty dirty.  Lots of 'chunks' left in the barrel, and Unique is definately cleaner.  Im going to load up some 240's & 180's (XTP) and have at it.

I mounted a Bushnell 2-6 x 32 trophy scope on it, and it seems pretty good sofar.  What distance does everybody like to sight in at?  I was thinking at 50 yards and shooting 2 inches high SHOULD put me with-in the kill zone out to 100 for deer.

Don't neglect Blue Dot for yer .44 ... or most contender cals. for that matter.... worth trying if you have it onhand ...  Marty

Kb, I only use 2400 in my 44 MAG. W296 or H110 would work nice also.

As far as sighting in, if you plan on shooting to 100 yards, you should see how your gun is shooting at 100 yards and practice at that distance.

Sure you can sight in at 2 inches high at 50 yards and guess where you will be hitting at 100 yards, but you really need to shoot it at that distance.  :D  JMHO

I use max loads of H110 with 180g XTP's.  That'll get me close 1800 fps and 1.5" at 100 yards. Mine likes 180's much better than 240's for some reason.

At 100 yards I was pretty much shooting minute-of-whitetail off the bench, but I would like to work on that a little more.  

I know that I will find myself enjoying this gun more and more as I shoot it.

Im actually thinking of getting rid of my 629, as I could never get the thing to shoot.  Now that spring has sprung, I'll get out and try some more before I take any drastic measures like that.

You have to have an Encore frame becauce in the Contender the trigger gauard will tear up your fingure.

I have the Contender frame with my 44 MAG and never tore up my finger. And that is with max loaded 44 MAG's.

I guess you have to know how to shoot the Contender. LOL  :D  :-D

One of my favorite loads out of the 10" 44 mag( or any 44 magnum ) is 22 grains of H110 with a Hornady 265 grain soft point.

It should be a good shooter.

If the 2400 is dirty you may have to increase the load or bullet weight. It usually will clean up as you reach max load. H110/296 will do the same. I sight my 320g about 1" high at 100 yards and that will keep it within a 5" circle from 0-135 yards roughly.
