I just got home from the gun shop. I bought my father in law a new 24 inch sidekick. Put the rail and a simmons 3x9x40 scope on it and the hammer extension. It is for Fathers day, but with all the stuff on it and bore sighted,  I am thinking give it to him to shoot now. He has a CVA staghorn now, but he is left handed. And since he is getting up in age, he has a hard time priming it and has to reach across to cock it. This will make a much more user friendly muzzleloader for him to use. Hopefully they will start making the 25 breech plug for the older 7/8 breech plugs. It will be a real topper to it all. Forgot to add it was 134.99 brand new

I love mine. The only disappoint I had was when I went to set it up like my Huntsman with see thru mounts I could not see the fiber optic sights over the scope rail. So It is just a scoped muzzle loader. But it shoots GREAT.

Well we shot my father in laws new sidekick out last night. He was more than pleased with it. He used 2 50 grain pyrodex pellets because he likes the convenience.  Also used some of my 250 grain hornady sst's with a harvester sabot. It shot inch groups at 50 yards after we got the scope adjusted in. Stayed the same at 75 and opened up to about 2 inches at 100 yards. Since we are trying to make a hunting gun, he was more than happy. He took his breech plug wrench and had 2 nuts welded on top of it today. It looks good and functions much better. He is very happy with it and is looking forward to hunting with it this fall.

Has anybody shot the Hornady 240 gr. hollow point XTP sabots with any success?  If so, what powder?  I have been experimenting with these and loose American Pioneer Powder (85gr.) and I got my little Huntsman zeroed in pretty well at 100 yds.

Doug B., Welcome, I use Hornady XTP 240 grain bullets with T/C Mag sabots, with two fifty grain pryodex pellets with excellent accuracy. The load has taken several mule deer with no problems. :D

The 240 grn. XTP's over 80 grains of loose T7 or BM3
are spot on for me.With Pyro "P" I have to kick it up
to 90 grains to get the groups I want.
