113gr cast bullet loads for 30-06
« on: April 02, 2005, 05:42:08 PM »
Hi all, I have dupont pb powder and 113gr gas-checked cast bullets.  I need recommendations for grains of powder.  Must be somewhere between 8-12.  I have data for 30-30 win, and use same bullet and 8.3 grains of pb for a great plinking load.  I consulted lyman manual(current) and they do not list pb for this bullet.  I have seen other posters list this load, but can't seem to locate.  any help is appreciated.  love this web site.

I can't imagine why you'd want to shoot a 113 gr. bullet in an '06.  The sectional density is nil.  A bullet of that weight is more appropriate to a .25 caliber gun.

Lyman lists their #311359 (120 grain) for the 06' and the PB load recomendation is 12.0 grains at 1,689 fps. to 15.5 grains at 1941 fps. The cup pressure for the max load is 39,000 so you make the decisions from here.

thanks for the reply.  I shoot it cause thats what I've got, thats why.  If (I cared about sectional density etc. , I would use jacketed bullets and full power hunting loads.  Casting and shooting your own allows for inexpensive shooting.  thanks for the info .

I shot a few thousand of Lyman 311359 bullets out of my first 32 H & R Contender barrel and they shot fine. Originally I used a borrowed mould and those bullets weighed 115 grains. When I returned the mould and bought one of my own the bullets weighed 120 grains from the same alloy. Turns out that the gas check base was much longer on the 120 gr. bullet. I still have a few coffee cans of these bullets and maybe I'll give them a try in my '06. Shooting plinker loads is always fun and easy on the budget too. I probably have enough 30-06 brass to load them all, brass that I have been saving for just one more loading.

Baileys buddy could work for me too since my beagle is named Bailey.
