Range Report New 243!!
« on: April 03, 2005, 12:55:36 PM »
Well I braved the wind and man am I glad I did. I AM IN LOVE!
243 22" Bull Barrel. I took 3 shots at a bigger range target to make sure I was on paper. I was and made adjustments. I was about 3 inches low and 4 inches to the left. I then switched to the targets that I carry and it took me 2 shots to get in the bull.

The only thing that it did not shoot great was Speer 85 gr SPBT's but it could have been the shooter cause they did do very good just not as good as the rest. I only took 25 rounds, 8 of those were Rem Corelokts that I planned to use to sight in cause they are cheap. With the wind the way it was I only planned to shoot from 50 yards to evaluate my test rounds Now I wish I had taken more to move to the 100 yard line. Oh well there is next time. I hope the stuff I wrote on the targets shows up if not I will edit and give you the loads.

Ok here goes I hope this works!

Did you do anything to this rifle before shooting these groups? My .280 would not shoot close to that right "outta-the-box". They are some impressive groups, good job! :-D

JB Bore paste used a small amount on a patch and went in and out 10 times. Then cleaned it until no more gunk. It is amazing how many patches it took to get the "cosmolene" (spelling?) cleaned out of the barrel. By the way my 270 won't do near this good either. But my 223 does. I was suprised that the larger 243's did well after everything I read here. But I did do a lot of homework on Bullet lenghts and stabilizing velocity. (Thank you again Fred M.)

You'll probably find those groups won't spread out much further at 100 yards. When I saw your groups, I thought they had been shot at that range. Mine will shoot like that at 100. :D
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens
