Smith sight w/ BC 45-90 range results
« on: April 06, 2005, 01:57:14 PM »
Just a note to those that may be interested.  I shot the 45-90 BC at 300 yards this past weekend. BP loads, 535gr Lyman Postell.  I had to set the ladder on 375 to get on target at 300 so when I get a load that groups well, I'm going to have to calibrate the ladder by changing the front globe to a lower one.

Ian

P.S.  as an aside, I shot a 3/4-1" group at 300yds with my Savage 12FLVSS and Hornady's 75gr AMax, was quite proud of it.  3 shots in the group, a 4th pulled the group to 4".. I quite naturally threw that one out.

Just curious....what diameter are the postells? What is the current height of your front sight?
I'm using the .584 Lyman with a Vernier 5" Tang.

The postells are .458 and the stock front sight is the Lyman #17AUG, .584 in height.

I was shooting Ian's .45-90 with him, I really like the smith sight but I don't care as much for the Lyman front I think I'll try a straight blade with mine, I was able to bust some rock at 100yrds with some of my .45-70 handloads outta his BC offhand, that smith sight is very easy to pick up.
