Contender in 209X.45 or .50 or .54?
« on: February 13, 2003, 05:58:35 AM »
Does anyone know if TC makes the muzzle loader set-up for a Contender? I've got the rifle/handgun combo, in everything from .22RF-.44 Mag. and as I expressed a mild interest in the in-lines muzzle loaders might be fun. Can't find a TC Scout, and don't care for the plastic stocked, or bolt action in-lines. Saw where Cabella's has a Remington Rolling Block design muzzle loader that takes a 209 primer, in .50 only with a 1:24, in a 26" barrel. Anyone familiar with this?

Please bare with me, I'm experiencing severe shooting withdrawals, as for over a week the wind blew at hurricane velocities, and now that the wind stopped blowing, it's raining cats and dogs, fact is, I just stepped in a poodle. Sorry, just had to get that in. Anyway back to the original questions, I'd appreciate any suggestions. RR

Bubba, I checked there about a week ago and they had one in .50 with the plastic stock, and the other one was a pistol. Guess I'll have to check it out again. Thanks RR

River runner:  Got new 2003 T/C catalog & they are offering a 209X45  23 inch for the Contender, But for the new G2 only (will not fit old frames).

On the 209X45 G2 barrel there is a pin under the barrel lug that wont let it work on a Contender (old style). Now if that pin fell out,or got misplaced,it might fit on a Contender(old style).

I checked with Bulberry Barrels, and for about $450.00, I can get one of there set-ups, but there is no provision to carry the ramrod attached to the arm, as they float the barrel, and guarentee moa out to 200 yards. They do have available a range rod, but I plan on using it in the field, so I'd have to lug a ramrod somehow. Not my idea of the ideal set-up. Gonic, was pretty much the same set-up and price.

By tomorrow afternoon I'll find out if my bid on a TC Scout went thru, in a .50 caliber, wood stock etc. Then I'll have all kinds of questions: It has a 1:38 twist, in a 21" barrel (carbine). According to the 150X.50X.50 divided X38= .98 length in projectile. Anyway $225.00 beats the heck out of $450.
