30 Carbine Cast Loads
« on: April 08, 2005, 02:01:34 PM »
Howdy Everyone,
I know it was on here one time or another.
But I am looking for some starting loads for heavy cast bullets out of a contender.Have 130, 150 and 168 moulds.
Mostly looking for data for the 168 grainers.
Thanks

30 Carbine Cast Loads

Wilbe;

i ran the numers through my "loads from a disk" program to get some ideas of max loads.  Th heaviest bullet listed in the cast bullet section is only 130 grains, but with H110, it lists a max of 10.2 grains, for a velocity of 1686.

It also posts a warning that the "volume ratios are outside paramaters", and to check the loading manuals, which i did.

The Lyman cast bullet handbook also lists the 130 grainer, but no H110 data. Max loads are as follows:

6.1 gr Unique...1468fps
6.0 gr SR4756...1371fps
12.0 gr 2400...1733
12.7 gr IMR4227...1647

Lyman recommens starting loads as being reduced by approximately 15%.

Hope this helps.

Wilbe
I found some more heavy bullet load information besides what I already sent you. Go to www.aimoo.com/ihmsa and do a search, 30 carbine and 32-20. Search under Big Bore and Big Bore Loads. If it doesn't come right up play with the search wording its there. Any data for the 32-20 can be adjusted for use in the 30 carb. I hope this helps. Don't give up the on 30 carbine with heavy cast bullets. The accuracy will surprise you.

Thanks
fyrepowrx and mugs!
I have loaded some 150 and 168 grainers up .
I am shooting them out of a Encore in a 308 barrel with a insert.
Also have shot some out of a old springfield in 30/06.
Both barrels like the 168 the best.Had a couple hole cutters out of both.
Other then aim point changes this a lot of fun.Low report and hardly any recoil.
Thanks
