Surprise, Surprise...............
« on: April 09, 2005, 12:40:23 PM »
While out this morning trying our best to get a nice tom the son and I had a surprise on our first stand.  We had a tom talking to us, coming in from the East when I heard a noise to our right and low and behold there were three Coyotes standing not 40 yards away trying to pin point our location.     Seeing we had our handguns with us, we hunt with air rifles, two of them didn't get away.  This is the first time I have had a Coyote respond to a turkey call.  Mountain Lions, Bobcats and even a couple of Bears but never a Coyote.  Lawdog

Attorney: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in
his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?

Doctor: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

Having an occasional Black Bear or Mountain Lion come in while calling keeps one from falling asleep when calling turkeys.  You can never tell, your calls may not be fooling a wise old Tom Turkey but you could be sounding good to something else.     Lawdog

I had a 'yote about jump in my lap 3 years ago while calling with a slate.  I let her get to 5 yards before I let her have it.  Just one big hole in her head that was now 2 oz heavier than before I pulled the trigger.
