.45/70 Handi Rifle Forearm Contour/Wood Model???
« on: April 09, 2005, 02:53:58 PM »
Hello, new member here!! Said my hellos in the Traditional Black Powder section. Anyway, I have the 2005 H&R/NEF catalog and it shows the .45/70 Handi Rifle(wood model) with a straight cutoff end of the forearm stock, but saw on Wal-Marts site that the same gun has a Schnable end forearm end. Question, which one is the newer style, I like the straight cutoff one, IU don`t care much for the Schnable end forearms. Thanks a bunch-Jack.

The schnable is the old style and welcome to the forum! :D If you choose to, you can probably trade one for the other here, lots of us like the old style.

Thank you very much. I don`t own the old style, but I do own a NEF Pardner in .410 adult length, great squrrel gun!! I am going to order a new NEF Handi in .45/70 now in wood :-D  I can`t wait!! Next will be the wood model Sidekick muzzleloader. I will eventually load my .45/70 with blackpowder as I am a blackpowder shooter at heart :-) Can you tell me the difference between the older frames and the newer ones, stregtnh maybe? Thanks-Jack.

FAQ here, frame upgrade date is about 1/3 down the list.

Jack, since you're interested in shooting black powder loads in the 45-70, check out Junior Doughty's web site.....

I am guessing that NEF changed the Forearms at the same time they changed the Recievers? About what year, 1999? Thanks-Jack.

Just looked at the FAQ page and I believe the T makes it a 2003 model which is the year I bought it and aanother .357 barrel to rechamber to the MAX and a hornet and then I reliezed I was addicted and its my favorite rifle and I had to have more and more. So a .44 and a 7.62x39 are gonna be mine soon.
