I have aquired a Marlin 336cb in 38-55 I am looking for loading data for it I have casted some 250 gr. rnfp bullets and wish to have a powder that fills the case so as not to be position sensitive or have to use a filler.

Old Sparky,

I too just picked up a like new 336 cb this weekend.  I am interested in loads also.  I would like to keep performance near original black powder performance without the use of fillers.

.38-55 load data

Evening.
I have had very good results with IMR SR4759. Seems to leave less un-burned powder than 5744.
Though 5744 and the un-burned powder have not really seemed to affect the accuracy. I seem to have better results with 4759.

I have a 336cb 38-55 and my favorite load is 20 gr SR4759 with 270gr cast bullet. It doesn't quite fill the case, but is pretty close and requires no filler. This gives 1660 fps, good accuracy and really low velocity variation, which I find I get anytime I use SR 4759. This load also worked good on one whitetail this year. I cast the bullet soft enough to get some expansion. A friend of mine has the same gun and bullet mold and uses 4227 with good results and also does not use any filler. Good luck - these are fun rifles but some of these guns have bores so large that it is hard to get the bullet diameter as large as you would want and still get them to fit in the chamber. I had my chamber opened up to solve the problem. My friend did not have this issue with his.

well I got everything to reload and had sized my bullets to .380 ( my barrel slugged to .3806) and at that size the case bulges when seating the bullet in the case and the cartridge will not chamber. Now what?
thanks, Sparky

Sparky !
If you don't have a Lee factory crimp die for .38-55 try crimping your cartridge twice with your present crimp die. I would recommend the Lee die however. This should take care of the problem.
