Gentlemen, here are some pictures of the second cannon shoot we had at the Hernando Sportsman’s Club range near Brooksville, Florida. The targets were 3’ x 4’ panels set out at 200 meters. Some of us had hits, I had one near the center of the panel with my half scale 1.5” Parrott smoothbore. It was a lot of fun.  :grin:

1/2 scale 1.5" Parrott?  That means 0.75" diameter bore (about 12ga).

AND LOOK AT THAT 3/4" one-hole group!

Seriously, that's good shootin'!!  200 yards is a ways off for any smoothbore!

Looks like you had some good company there too, with a variety of shootin' irons.

Hello  CW,

My 1/2 Scale Parrott has a bore diameter of 1.497" and shoots a 12 oz lead round ball. This Barrel was made by SBR.

So that's a group of under 1-1/2"!  Still good.  

My experience is with mortars, which are at the other end of the spectrum from benchrest guns.  

That grin was EARNED!

Actually, CW that group is far better than that.  Groups are measured CTC.  His gruoup is the ultimate .000!

A grouping like that would Great!!! However, I believe that Cpt Ed is saying that he had one hit in the target. Which is still pretty good.  :grin:

I understand that.  The realization that the mortar round cleared the mountain behind the back stop way behind the range still has me wondering where in the National Forrest that round ended up!

OK, OK,

So you were there at our first Cannon/Mortar Shoot in November 2004? Was that your Mortar that launched that missile into orbit, never to be seen again??  Newton’s Law; what goes up must come down. And yes either in the National Forrest on in the Gulf of Mexico.

 Remember that  Experienced Cannoneers have control of their bawls!!  (Projectiles).

I think that another member of your forum must have said that??

No  wasn't me.  I guess I was feeling the competition - since another guy had launched one over the mountain with his store-bought mortar I figured I just had to do it too.


I've done all my mortar shooting in Iowa, Vermont, Massachussets and Virginia.
