The Sportster is the only model available from H&R in .17hmr, they sell for $110-$130 normally, sometimes as high as $150 new. I paid $125 for a used one with scope, my 17M2 was $130 new. If and when Walmart gets them in their inventory, they'll sell for $125. They're only available in the bull barrel configuration, unlike the 22Lr and 22mag.

Walmart has them in stock. I order one on Friday for $124.28 plus tax. Item # 1063300117. The 17 hmr arrived on Wednesday(04/13/05). The only other number on the box: 551017.

Thanks,
John B.

JCB, the number needed is the UPC code, it will be a number similar to this.... 4814120 for the 22mag. If you can provide that, we can add it to the list in the FAQ....thx

jcb67,

so you got your 17hmr yesterday? I noticed you editted your earlier message. I think I'll take a run over to WM and see if I can get one.

John, the number should be on the reciept and I would expect the UPC code would be on a bar code label affixed to the NEF box, maybe...???

Well, I ended up accidentally ordering a 17hmr sportster for myself today.
Went to WM with the UPC number and the Sports South item number. The clerk got out the book which was still the 2004 book and, since we didn't see the 17hmr there, said it doesn't look like we can order it.

So, I told her how my friend from Virginia just got one and said if she would call Sports South to check if one was in inventory then the Sports South person could tell her how to go about ordering it. So she did and he did and next thing I know I was handing over the cash for layaway. By the way, the WM clerk seemed to know a fair amount about NEFs too.

I'll bet you can get anything from H&R/NEF/Marlin even if it's not in the book. Here are two more UPC codes if anyone wants/needs them
SS1-017,  UPC 0-1063300117-6, SportsSouth item#89133  (17hmr)
SS1-217,  UPC 0-1063301517-2, SportsSouth item#11894  (17hm2)

I think they leave off the first and last digits of the UPC when they punch in the numbers (like 1063300117 only). As far as I could tell, they didn't use a WM item number at all.

Lostsniper308, Good for you buddy, and I think it's great your caring parents found the right carrot to dangle in front of you. A little work now will translate into a lot of fun later that will last a lifetime. Get all A's and I send you a bunch of .17HMR ammo!!! Get half A's and half B's and I'll still send you some .17 HMR ammo!!
Seriously now, whatever it takes, it will be worth it in the future. Those A's or B's will translate to a much better life for your and your future family, wife and possibly children, as well as many more H&R's for you and your future sons and daughters. Keep at it and good luck....<><....

Some things that worked for me:

1. Read your reading assignments outloud.  Hearing it will help with retention and reduce "glazing" over the pages reading by not retaining anything.  Reading outloud requires more work hense more retention for some people.

2. Study outside when possible.

3. Remember, you attention span isn't 2 hours... so study for 30 minutes then take a 5 to 10 minute break, then get back at the books.

4. Find ways that you remember things.  I'm very visual (nearly a photo graphic memory) so by looking at the pages of my text books long enough I'd have the page memorized and could reread the pages during the test.  However, if you tell me your name, I hear it only, I'll forgot it in 5 minutes...  If you write it down and I look at if for a minute or two, I'll remember it for a very long time.  So determine how your mind remembers best, visual, audio, etc and try to study so you put the information in your head so you can get it back out.  In my case I had to write everything down and look at it...

5. Set goals.  Not goals you know you can achive but goals that will drive you to do better.  I floated along with b's and c's for the first two years of high school.  My junior year I decided I wanted straight A's.  My senior year I tutored our class valedictorian (I never learned how to spelll....  :) ) in Physics class, yet my cumulative grade point average wasn't high enough for me to finish in the top 15% in my class...  If I would have pushed myself the first two years of highschool like I did the last two I could probably of had my college paid for by scholarships...  Live and learn...

6. Get plenty of sleep.

7. Take a few minutes for every assignment and check if for mistakes you didn't mean to make.  Little mistakes, uncorrected, add up over time and pull down your scores.

8. Make it fun.  For my case that was making it into a challenge.  Not to learn all I could learn, but to do better than anyone else.  Starting by learning how I learned best and did that to be the best.

Just like sports, find your strengths, capitolize on your strength to get ahead.  Same with learning, find your strengths, use them, and then you'll excell.

but burgers, salads, and true milkshakes do provide a better lunch than many care to admit. Add taking your vitamins to the list too. Supplements are needed in our overly processed world. Say no to drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Pick your friend (s) carefully... they'll last a lifetime.

your so right lostsniper308, not only is the language annoying, the French themselves are annoying, not to mention the politics and politicians. France is definitely not a friend of the United States or the American people. And to think some people still go to France for a vacation!!!....<><....
