I see lots of references to different frames, as in being stronger or weaker.

If I'm reading these posts right, the SB2 rifles are the stronger ones.  My puzzlement stems from the fact that, as far as i can see, the SB1 or SB2 designations are on the barrel, not the frame.  I only have 3 centerfire NEF rifles; my 243 says "Handi rifle SB@" on the barrel, my Hornet says the same and my 38-55 Target says "model 1871" and "cal 38-55 WIN" on the barrel, and "Harrington and Richardson" on the frame.  The S/N is HU 354xxx.

So, How do you know, when looking over a used rifle, what it is?  It could be any frame, like a shotgun frame, with whatever barrel may have been put on it; as long as it locked up OK how would you ever know?

That's simple...if you have reason to doubt the seller or if they don't know the history of the rifle...or if you are just curious...and have any doubts...call the company with the serial ##### and ask...
